Departure from Delhi in the evening by Volvo Bus. Overnight journey to Dharamsala.
Distance – 510 kms, Journey Time – approximately 12 hrs.
Arrival in Dharamsala (1457 mts/ 4780 ft) by morning. Transfer to Hotel in upper Dharamsala (2082 mts/ 6825 ft). First half of the day at leisure. Explore interesting Mcleodgunj market and walk to famous Tibetan Monastery and residence of His Holiness Dalai Lama in Exile. O/n Hotel.
After Breakfast, leave for full day tour. Distance travelled today – 130 Kms, time for tour & sight-seeing – approximately 8 hrs.
Drive to visit Jwalaji temple (610 mts/ 2000 ft) which is, in its category, probably the most ancient temple besides Vaishno Devi, with its mention in the Mahabharata and other scriptures. There is a natural cave where eternal flames continue to burn. It is believed that there are seven or nine flames for the seven divine sisters or the nine Durgas. Visit historical Kangra fort (733 mts/ 2400 ft), which is largest fort in the Himalayas and probably the oldest dated fort in India. It was controlled by numerous dynasties of Moghuls, Rajputs, Gurkhas and Sikhs throughout the history before getting ruined in 1905 earthquake. Being situated on a hilltop, it offers commanding views of mighty Dhauladhar mountain range and lower kangra valley. Norbulingka Institute, dedicated to preserve Tibetan culture in its literary and artistic forms is beautifully designed by a Japanese Architect is worth a visit. Finally visit beautifully located Monastery at Sidhpur (846 mts/ 2800 ft) which is seat of 17th Karmapa Lama. O/n Hotel.
After relaxed morning, leave for half day tour of Dal lake. Naddi village where you experience closest encounter with Dhauladhar, St. John’s Church in wilderness built in 1852 set amidst thick forest and Bhagsu waterfalls.
Distance travelled today – 20 Kms. Time for tour & sight-seeing – approximately 2 hrs.
Reserve couple of hours for a hike to Dharamkot village which is an attractive spot with mustard fields and presents a wide view of the Kangra valley and the Dhauladhar ranges. There are a couple of small (and interesting) eateries around. Several foreigners have taken residence in the area; all live in village homes and tiny guest houses. Dharamkot also meditation centre, which is a centre for the study and practice of Buddhism in the Tibetan Mahayana tradition. O/n Hotel.
Breakfast and Check out by noon. Distance travelled today – 9 Kms. Drive down to Dharamsala, get dropped at the boarding point of Volvo bus, Baggage gets deposited at Bus operator's office.
Visit Kangra Art & Folk Museum which is treasure of kangra Valley’s cultural past, crafts, arts and other ancient artifacts. Some of the displayed items in the museum are dating back to 5th century. Kangra Museum encloses a gallery consisting of miniature paintings of Kangra’s rich past, pottery, rare coin memorabilia, sculptures and anthropological materials. It has a varied collection of tribal jewelry, embroidered costumes and wood carvings. Don’t miss the chance to explore Kotwali Bazaar before boarding bus in the evening.
